Chatsworth to Santa Barbara Ride in Memory of John McLaughlin

The cost of this event is:
$20 for members
$45 for non-members (ALL non-members must sign a waiver & pay in advance).

Our LATC family is dedicating this ride to our friend and brother John McLaughlin, who was tragically killed while cycling on February 22nd. We will hold a moment of silence before the ride and a tribute walk along the beach in Santa Barbara at 4pm. Please support his GoFundMe page for his family >> https://gofund.me/dad437c6
We are budgeting 9 hours for this 78-mile ride from Chatsworth to Santa Barbara. That is an average of 8.67 mph. This ride is do-able for most cyclists. We want you to average at least 11 mph, so you will have 2 hours to eat, drink, and relax before catching the train ride home. For those attempting Gibraltar, please arrive at Santa Barbara in 5 hours, approx. 12:30pm. This will give us 4 hours to ride Gibraltar and back at a comfortable pace. (22 miles, ~3.7K vert) DO NOT attempt Gibraltar past 1:30pm!
We will roll out of the Chatsworth train station parking lot at 7:30am sharp! Please be there at 7:00am for photos and a safety brief

Aid Station 1 (Mile 28): Camarillo. Restrooms are available in Starbucks (Please be courteous as this is not a public restroom)
Aid Station 2 (Mile 50): Ventura - Mission Park. Public restrooms available at the park.
Aid Station 3 (Mile 78): Santa Barbara - SB Biergarten. This aid station is for folks doing the Gibraltar climb only. If you are done with the ride, please get real food and drinks at the restaurant. Restrooms available at the restaurant
Aid Station 4 (Mile 89.5): Top of Gibraltar (tentative). If we ask Katie nicely, maybe she can meet us at the top. No restrooms at the top, but there are plenty of bushes and trees. Just watch out for rattlesnakes.
Phone numbers for SAG will be provided during the ride brief. Please keep the phone number with you on the ride!! You never know when you need a rescue. However, EVERYONE is expected to fix their own flat and have their own flat repair kit.
We will meet at SB Biergarten for food, beer, and good times!
Please bring at least two water bottles, special nutrition, flat repair kit, and safety lights.
We will have a SAG van so you can pack a small bag with a change of clothes and other personal items for the train ride back. It will get cold so maybe consider packing a sweater and pants.
We plan on taking the 4:40pm train home, but you are welcome to hop on other trains. Please check their schedule.
