IRONMAN 70.3 Racine

There's no shortage of things to do and see in Racine. Take a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's works, stop by a local bakery or spend a day fishing at Horlick Dam. Racine boasts numerous parks and trails along the Root River, which winds through the city, and is popular for fishing, hiking, canoeing, and kayaking. Lake Michigan, one of the nation's top sports fisheries, has recreational boating and charter fishing opportunities. If architecture is your passion, you'll want to seek out the world-renowned Frank Lloyd Wright architecture of SC Johnson, a Family Company. And no visit to Racine is complete without a visit to a local bakery for Kringle, the oval-shaped Danish pastry produced predominately in the county. The unique lakefront setting of the Racine Zoo is another experience in itself. Athletes will traverse a point-to-point 1.2-mile swim along Lake Michigan's North Beach, where the water is open for practice during the season, weather permitting. Water temperature is typically below 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The bike is an exciting, mostly rolling, 56-mile course through the countryside of Racine County. There are a handful of steeper climbs, however, to keep athletes honest. The 13.1-mile, double out-and-back run course features a tour of the Racine Zoo and the beautiful Lake Michigan coastline as athletes make their way toward the Racine Lighthouse to the turnaround at Shoop Park. The course is very flat and fast. The 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Racine offers qualifying slots to the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa.
