Nowhere else is the awesome power of nature to create and to destroy more apparent than on Lanzarote. One of the seven Canary Islands belonging to Spain, Lanzarote is only 120 km from the West Coast of Africa. On this island that captivates visitors with its dramatic scenery, picturesque villages and unique style, probably one of the toughest races in the world is held every year.

The race is fully supported by the Canarian and Local Government. Club La Santa holds the license for the Ironman Lanzarote Spain and is the organizer of the race.

Lanzarote is one of the seven Canary Islands belonging to Spain, situated 1,000 km from the Iberian Peninsula and just 140 km off the west coast of Africa. Protected by influential climatic effects, the combination of high Saharan temperatures and the Trade Winds blowing in from the Gulf of Mexico give the island an average temperature of 22°C all year round, which makes it an ideal training ground for all seasons.

The island, home to a total of nearly 140,000 inhabitants (1995), covers an area of about 900 square km, with a north-south distance of 60 km and an east-west distance of 20 km.
