ITU Long Course Championships
Branded as the toughest course in North America by "The Man" himself, Dave Scott, and echoed by the more than 1,500 finishers over the past 5 years, the Nevada Silverman Triathlon continues to attract individuals and relay teams from around the world looking for a superb culmination race to their triathlon season. The ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championships will most definitely bring between 1,000 and 3,000 of the BEST professional and amateur triathletes from across the Globe to Southern Nevada. The World Championships race will feature a 4K swim which is slated to be held at the Lake Las Vegas resort, a 120K bike ride with more than 9,700 feet climbing, and a 30K run that boasts an additional 2,000 ft elevation gain. The 4K swim will take place in the breathtaking waters of the Lake Las Vegas resort, located in Henderson, Nevada. There will be one mass start just beyond the Lake Las Vegas bridge that is adjacent to the Montelago Village Resort. The course consists of one loop that goes out and back in clockwise fashion with large orange buoys every 250 yards. Within the swim you will have a number of opportunities to view the golf course and beautiful homes owned by some of the most famous actors in the world. This will surely take athletes minds off the pain. There will be a number of lifeguards, kayaks and safety craft throughout the course of the swim. The athletes will exit the swim and proceed up the ramp to the changing tents and transition area. The normal water temperature for this time of the year is 63-68 degrees and clear. The ITU bike course is one of uniqueness, beauty, rolling hills and a few memorable climbs, but we are sure you will pay more attention to the beauty of the desert winter. As athletes leave the transition area and Lake Las Vegas they will take a right onto Lake Mead Parkway proceeding south to Magic Way and the River Mountain Trail Loop. They will proceed under the tunnel where it will loop back on Lake Mead Parkway heading North to Lake Mead entrance. Soon after they will pass the Lake Mead entrance heading approximately 10 miles to the first turn around at just before the guard shack. Once the athletes make this turn they will follow this road to SR 147/167 through Lake Mead National Recreation Area until the turn around just beyond Red Stone Canyon. After the turn around the athletes will follow SR 167 back until they take a right and exit Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Lake Mead Parkway will then take them under Lake Mead Parkway tunnel onto the New River Mountains Trail Loop. Completion of the loop will bring them to Foothill Dr, from here they will take this to Paradise Hills and take a right onto Horizon Ridge then take a right on Cielo Albierto, left on Paseo Verde and left into the transition area located at the Henderson Multigenerational Center. There will be aid stations every 10 miles with a special needs pick up at the 56-mile marker. The ITU run course consists of a 30K that goes through some of America's fastest growing city's beautiful neighborhoods. The course is rolling hills with two challenging climbs in the middle of the course. The run will proceed out of the transition area heading North on Paseo Verde. Take a right on Valle Verde, right on Horizon Ridge, right on Green Valley Parkway and left on the public trail. Take a left out of the trail onto Carnegie and take this to Green Valley Parkway. Take a right on Green Valley Parkway and follow this to the turn around at Sandy Ridge. Take Green Valley to Carnegie and take this past Green Valley Ranch Casino (GVRC). Take right on Village View Dr, right on "District" alley, right on GVRC and "District" road, left on Village View Dr, left on Carnegie, left on public trail, left on Green Valley Parkway and right into the Henderson Multigenerational Center. The track will give you ample opportunity to see your loved ones and have some amazing photo shots. There will be aid stations posted approximately every mile on the run and a special needs pick up at the halfway point of the run. The course offers breathtaking views over vast expanses of desert terrain, tremendous athlete support on course (4:1 volunteer ratio and "buffet-style" aid stations), an abundance of shopping, dining and entertainment for the athletes friends and family, so we can guarantee there will be plenty of opportunities for athletes to celebrate their finish at the 2011 ITU Long Course Triathlon World Championship. The Nevada Silverman Triathlon offers breathtaking views over vast expanses of desert terrain, tremendous athlete support on course, right in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world – why would you want to race anywhere else? Prevention Magazine named Henderson the 6th best walking city in America and according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, among potential visitors to Southern Nevada, 48% said they were more interested in attending an event in Southern Nevada rather than somewhere else in the nation, simply because of the Las Vegas "brand" and excitement that our city continually offers. We are confident that Southern Nevada is the perfect venue for the 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships.
