Total Immersion 2-week (4 session) technique plus

Day 2 out of 4! 2 - week TI training series. This class will be a hybrid of a technique workshop and a swim practice. Pure technique workshops consist of a series of drills and exercises that revamp your technique with lots of hands on feedback and adjustments, while pure swim practices traditionally just give workouts with a limited amount of technique coaching. This class is where technique and training converge. In the first 2 sessions we will focus solely on technique and in the 2nd 2 sessions we will teach you how to integrated maintenace of technique and efficiency into practice planning and training. What the class will consist of: 4 x 90 minute sessions, for a total of 6 hours of instruction. Each session will consist of classroom time, pool time, and underwater videotaping of every swimmer. Breakdown of time: The first 30 minutes of each class will be 'classroom' time on the pooldeck which will include discussion of the fundamentals of technique and how to incorporate it into training, how to write strategic practices and design a plan that help you to achieve your goals, some dryland exercises that teach principles of alignment and timing (including some basic yoga and breathing exercises that can aid your form when done as a warm up) and review of underwater video. The classroom time will be followed by 60 minutes of swim practice. Swimmers will also get a practice plan e-mailed to them of what they should practice on the other days of the week between sessions. Swimmers will be videotaped both at the start of the class and at the end to see before and after results and given advice based on that what they should continue to practice. Coach Fiona Laughlin will teach the class from in the water for all 4 sessions making hands on adjustments in body postions to help swimmers feel the exact correct alignment, timing, and movement. This class is going to be somewhat of a hybrid of a swimming technique workshop and a training workshop as we will segue from technique drills into actual swim practices that incorporate the techniques. This will be a precursor for a more on-going swim training group for the LA Tri Club to commence in the fall. *** Swimmers may opt to take BOTH of the following 2 week classes for a total of 8 sessions at the discounted rate of $400*** 2-week class dates and times: Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 7:30 1st class: July 27, 29, Aug 3, 5 2nd class: Aug 9, 12, 16, 19 Tuition: $240 (this reflects your LATC discount) Location: Santa Monica Swim Center at Pico and 16th St at Santa Monica College Who is this class for? This class can suit a wide variety of ability levels from novice triathletes who want to develop the basics of their technique to more experienced triathletes who want to perfect technique and fully integrate it into their training for optimal performance. How many people in the class? Because this class is a hybrid of a workshop and a swim practice the class size will also be in between the typical size of a workshop (6 to one ratio of teacher to student at TI) and the typical size of a group at a Masters Swim Practice (which can be up to 20/30 people depending on the day. So the class will be capped at 15 people with 2 TI coaches in the water at all times. Thats a 7 and 1/2 to 1 ratio of coach to swimmers. In contrast, for the semi-private workshops held on weekends that are strictly technique the numbers will be capped at 6 - 9 (that variable determined by whether there is an assistant coach available). Class taught by: Fiona Laughlin of Total Immersion Swimming www.totalimmersion.net Questions?: Contact Fiona at fiona@totalimmersion.net TI: Total Immersion (TI) is the most well known and influential source of coaching and learning materials on efficient swimming technique for swimmers and triathletes in the world. TI founder, Terry Laughlin began developing the new paradigm for teaching efficient swimming technique through a series of drills that both minimize drag and maximize propulsion back in the 1980's at the very first TI classes. Since then TI has transformed countless swimmers and triathletes of all ability levels from inefficient strugglers to graceful, powerful, smooth swimmers with the efficiency to achieve their results in the pool and in open water. For the more accomplished swimmers and swimmers and triathletes in race season, TI teaches how to practice in a way in which form and efficiency are fully integrated into training, by maintaining form and control of energy expenditure while increasing distance and speed so as to increase the overall performance potential and to continually improve rather than staying on a plateau. Beyond competition, TI also focuses on teaching the person, not just the mechanics, seeking to turn swimming into a "flow activity" and a means of pursuing self-mastery. Fiona Laughlin, Terry Laughlin's daughter runs TI programming here in Los Angeles. Her main goal as a coach is to teach people to have a harmonious and productive relationship with the water.
