Ojai Valley Century

Ojai Valley Rides In 2006, the previous director of the Ojai Valley Century sought to turn ownership of the ride over to another organization. Jerry Boone—a long time cyclist and BSA (Boy Scouts) Cycling Merit Badge Counselor and Assistant Scoutmaster, got wind of this and suggested offering sponsorship to the local Scout troops. Work began immediately to organize a Board, set up a steering committee (incorporated as Ojai Valley Rides, Inc.), and assemble a team of veteran cyclists to advise the Board on routes, food and all other aspects that make rides desirable to cyclists. The majority of volunteers manning the SAG stops are scouts and their families. After the transition, the Ojai Valley Century consisted of three routes, a metric century, and full century and a double metric century, each starting and finishing in Ojai. Two additional routes were added over the following years to include a hammerhead century for the hard-core cyclist and a half-metric century for riders just starting out. All profits from the ride are donated directly to the two Boy Scout troops providing support for our ride. Donations are applied directly towards outings and to support families that need financial assistance with scouting.
